Swim Team Members Participated in Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires
Two of BGCUC’s Tidal Wave Swim Team members participated in the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires from October 6-18, 2018.
The Youth Olympic Games is an elite sporting event for young people around the world. The event aims to develop athletes and the community through the Olympic values, promoting sport as an educational tool. The sports program is based on that of the Olympic Games, with a few variations.
There were 32 sports on the summer program for Buenos Aires 2018. YOG provides a platform for the 15 to 18-year-old athletes around the world to compete. Over 4000 teenagers were representing about 200 National Olympic Committees in the Argentinean capital.
The two Tidal Wave Swim Team Members, Kai and Anthony, competed in various swim races over the course of the competition for their countries of origin. Kai (Bermuda) competed in the 50m & 100m free style events.
Anthony (Colombia) competed in the 50m & 200m backstroke events.
Anthony placed #7 in 200m backstroke and #9 in 50m backstroke.
Both young men have been in the BGCUC Aquatics and Swim Team programs from a very young age: Anthony since 6 years old; Kai since 2 1/2 years old. Both trained with Coach Yefim and Coach Oleg at BGCUC.
This year, Kai and Anthony have competed in many events in the US, Canada and South America, and the Caribbean. Thanks to our partner, United Airlines, for providing airfare for these incredible young men and their
families – these were great opportunities and experiences for them.
